The Starr Project Announces their first Scholarship recipients

The Starr Project is a nonprofit foundation established in 2022 to bring hope and relief from suicide events.  As volunteers, we will work diligently throughout the year raising funds for The Starr Project.  We believe it is important work to award annual scholarships to those passionate about continuing their education in the mental health career field.

This year, the family of Matthew Starr Owens Brown collectively decided to award the first scholarship to two very special young ladies who have gallantly persevered through the heartache of suicide.  Cousins to Matthew, they also lost their father to suicide at a young age.  They continue to include mental health awareness in their journey to becoming young adults.

Funds for the first Starr Project scholarship were given in memory of Matthew by Bobbie Larson & family as well as caring co-workers of his aunt at Morganton Eye Physicians of Shelby NC.
